According to the correspondent of SKAI in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, Celik stated that “the arguments they used about the process are the same ones they used to say “no” when we asked for the Patriot air defense system. They must remember the following: Turkey as a sovereign state ensures and does what is necessary for its security, while as a member of the alliance it ensures the security of NATO. And it is clear that due to its geostrategic position it also secures the security of Europe. If Turkey is not safe, NATO will have great shortcomings and weaknesses and there will be no question of the security of Europe. In this context for the air defense system they also rejected when we put the S-400 on our agenda. They asked “why did you buy them”. We asked you for it. You have to give us that. Our security is the security of NATO. What is the principle of NATO? “One for all, all for one”.
“You didn’t give us and then we bought S-400. They tell us “you cannot buy them as you are a member of NATO”. We answer: “and Greece, which is a member of NATO, has S-300” an older model. They say: “that is different”. So, we are faced with a hypocrisy. Even before and after the S-400, we said “let’s also buy from you Patriot to have an integrated air defense system”. They disagreed with that too. Turkey’s security issue is not an issue of blackmail. Whoever blackmails Turkey’s security will have no effect on us. We discuss, we negotiate, Turkey is a strong state of diplomacy, but it is not a state that succumbs to blackmail,” he said afterwards.
He also emphasized that “in the F-35 issue as in the F-16 every whenever a new excuse comes out, there was a Menendez who was like a representative of the Armenian lobby and he always maintained an attitude towards Turkey’s demands”.
