Celine: Hedi Slimane and the collection which (perhaps) is a subliminal message to Chanel

The world of fashion, as we know, is no stranger to the practice of boasting of conspiracies and giving rise to various rumors and at the center of the latest case, in these hours, these three great protagonists seem to have ended up: the brand Celineits creative director Hedi Slimane and one of the most important fashion houses in the world, Chanelwhich, orphaned of a leader in the creative field after the farewell of Virginie Viard, seems not to have yet decided who to assign the much coveted seat to.

As soon as a position becomes available, and lately it often happens, the full name for the new investiture starts automatically which, in the case of Chanel, has involved or rather inconvenienced the name of Hedi Slimane a lot without leading, at least at the moment, to anything concrete . A rumor dampened already last July by the statements of Bruno Pavlovskly, president of the Chanel fashion divisionwho had expressed his hopes for the future of Chanel the arrival of a designer with a style that is not too distinctive of his own – in short, a stylist who does not repeat the same formula, adapting it to each brand he approaches – so as not to distort the tradition of the brand.

In reality, according to the official version, the strings of pearls and the suits proposed have a reason that goes far beyond rumors of fashion system: that of pay homage to Juliette GrécoFrench singer and actress as well as a personality active in the French Resistance during the Second World War, who Slimane had the honor of meeting before his death in 2020.

Titled A été françaisthe Celine Spring-Summer 2025 collection is in fact a tribute to Gréco and the Parisian Sixties made of miniskirts and fringes, twinset enriched with sequins and hair bands. With all due respect, at least for now, to those who are convinced that there is something behind it.
