Cement sales in Brazil in February totaled 4.739 million tons, up 1.4% over the same month last year, according to data reported on Tuesday (8) by the association that brings together the manufacturers of the input, Snic.
In comparison with the balance of January, cement sales in February rose 4.4%. In the two-month period, there was a retraction of 3.9% over a year earlier.
The sales indicator per business day showed a retraction of 3.4% in February compared to the same month of 2021, to 225.7 thousand tons, leading the performance in the two-month period to a decline of 7.1%.
“Due to this complex scenario added to the monetary tightening, fiscal and political uncertainty and other vectors that point to low growth, the cement industry projects a worsening of the performance of the activity throughout the year”, said Snic in a statement.
In January, the entity estimated that the sector would have growth around zero in 2022, after a 6.4% increase in sales in 2021.
Cement sales in February in the Southeast, the largest consumer region of the input in the country, fell by 1.4% compared to the same month of 2021 and led to a drop of 7.6% in the two-month period.
In the Northeast, the second largest consumer region, February sales grew 3.4% over a year earlier, but the result in the first two months of the year was a low of 6.4%.
