Cenipa and PF share investigations into Voepass accident

Members of the Federal Police (PF) and Cenipa (Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents) began sharing data from the investigations into the Voepass plane crash on Monday (26). A meeting in Brasília (DF) defined the guidelines for the exchange of information between the agencies.

According to sources present at the meeting, there are “thousands” of analyses to be carried out that will be released gradually, through technical notes.

Part of the investigation is being carried out at the National Institute of Criminalistics of the Federal Police. Technicians are now waiting for access to recorded audio conversations and flight data that are in the black boxes of the aircraft that crashed in Vinhedo (SP).

The sharing of information was determined by the Federal Court of Campinas (SP), last Friday (23).

The PF requested access to the data in court, after the Federal Supreme Court (STF) maintained restrictions on the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the police regarding the information collected by Cenipa professionals.

In the coming days, Cenipa, an agency linked to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), is expected to release an initial report on the possible causes of the accident. The agency promised a first analysis within 30 days.

The main function of Cenipa is to carry out technical and scientific analysis to diagnose the causes of accidents and recommend preventive measures to avoid similar situations in the future. The Federal Police has opened an investigation to determine possible crimes and responsibilities.

Flight 2283, operated by Voepass, departed from Cascavel (PR) bound for São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos. The aircraft crashed in a gated community in the municipality of Vinhedo. The accident killed 62 people.
