Cenipa begins analysis of black boxes from plane that crashed in Kazakhstan

The Aviation Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) began this Thursday (2) the analysis of the black boxes of the plane that crashed in Kazakhstan on December 25, causing the death of 38 people.

The flight recorders – Cockpit Voice Recorder (voice recorder) and Flight Data Recorder (data recorder) – were delivered to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) at the Data Reading and Analysis Laboratory (Labdata) on Wednesday (1st) .

Analysis of aircraft data recordings and cockpit conversations will be carried out. The extracted data will be passed on to the Kazakh Aviation Accident Investigation Authority.

Members of Cenipa, responsible for air accident investigations, have already held a briefing with foreign technicians who monitored the material and will participate in the investigations.

Of the nine technicians who will participate in the process alongside Cenipa investigators, three are from Kazakhstan (site of the accident), three from Azerbaijan (country of origin of the flight and airline) and three from Russia (destination of the aircraft).

Annex 13 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation allows one country to request the collaboration of another in the investigation of an air accident.

The request was made to the FAB by the aeronautical authorities of Kazakhstan, taking into account the cutting-edge technologies maintained by Cenipa. The fact that the plane was manufactured by the Brazilian company Embraer is also a relevant point for the material to be sent to Brazil.

The E190 jet, manufactured by the Brazilian Embraer, had taken off from Baku, capital of Azerbaijan, and was destined for the Russian city of Grozny, capital of Chechnya. Twenty-nine people survived the crash.

According to sources in Azerbaijan familiar with the investigation and cited by Reuters, preliminary results indicate that the plane was hit by a Russian Pantsir-S air defense system, and its communications were disrupted by electronic warfare systems during its approach to Grozny.
