Central Bank of Chile maintains basic interest rate at 11.25%, with unanimous decision

The Central Bank of Chile unanimously decided today to maintain its basic interest rate at 11.25%. In its statement, the official indicates that the action comes with inflationary pressures around the world remaining high.

The central banks of developed economies continued to raise their reference rates and market expectations anticipate that their monetary adjustment will be prolonged, evaluates the bank.

“The global financial markets have reflected a greater search for risk, although they maintain high levels of volatility. As a result, part of the trends of recent months were reversed. Thus, in recent times, long-term interest rates have fallen, stock markets have risen and the dollar has devalued globally. Commodity prices have shown mixed movements”, points out the central bank.

“Monetary policy has made a significant adjustment and is favoring the resolution of the imbalances present in the economy. However, inflation remains very high and convergence to the 3% target is still subject to risks,” the statement said.

The central bank will keep the rate at 11.25% until the state of the macroeconomy indicates that the process has been consolidated, the official says.
