Central government records surplus of BRL 30.8 billion in October

The primary result of the central government (National Treasury, Social Security and Central Bank) showed a surplus of BRL 30.8 billion in October 2022. In the same month of the previous year, the primary result of the government had been a surplus of BRL 28.5 billion. The data are from the National Treasury, and were released this Tuesday (29).

“The result for the month was better than the median expectations of the Prisma Fiscal survey by the Ministry of Economy, which indicated a primary surplus of BRL 29.3 billion.”, highlights the document. The result of the Central Bank and the Treasury showed a surplus of R$ 46.8 billion, while Social Security (RGPS) presented a primary deficit of R$ 15.9 billion.

According to the Treasury, the highlights of the collection for the month of October 2022 were the increase in the collection of the Withholding Income Tax (IRRF), a growth in the social security collection (RGPS), due to the increase in the wage bill and greater collection of Simples Nacional, and an increase in revenue from exploration of natural resources, with a real increase of 9.4% in the receipt of special participation funds compared to October 2021.

In terms of expenses, according to the Ministry of Economy, the real increase in total expenses was generated by the increase in mandatory expenses, with emphasis on Auxílio Brasil, the increase in payments of social security benefits, due to the increase in the number of beneficiaries, and increased financial support to states and municipalities.

“With the result of October, the primary surplus of the Central Government accumulated in the year totals BRL 64.4 billion in nominal terms, while in the same period of 2021 a deficit of BRL 53.1 billion was registered.”, points out the document from the folder.

The positive result of public accounts was due to an increase in collection. According to the Treasury, the total collection of the Central Government reached a historical maximum in the accumulated in 12 months, and reached R$ 2.32 trillion.

“The good performance is spread across the three revenue groups. In non-managed revenues, the highlights of collection are concentrated in Dividends, Concessions and Permissions and Exploitation of Natural Resources.”, they point out.

In October 2022, total revenue increased by R$ 8.6 billion (4.4%), while net revenue increased by R$ 4.7 billion (2.8%), in real terms compared to the same month of 2021. The highlight goes to income tax collection, with an increase of R$ 8 billion, and social security collection, which increased by R$ 4.9 billion.
