According to CertiK, in August of this year, criminals were able to steal about $45 million worth of cryptocurrencies. In total, users have lost $997 million in fraudulent schemes since the beginning of the year.

According to a CertiK report, exit scams netted $26 million to hackers in August, instant loan attacks netted $6.4 million, and other vulnerabilities in crypto projects allowed them to withdraw another $13.5 million.

The largest exit scam was the transfer and sale of $13.2 million worth of memcoins by the PEPE development team. DeFi projects Exactly Protocol ($7.3 million), Magnate Finance ($5.4 million) and others were also hacked.

If we count for a year, then as part of attacks using instant loans, hackers managed to get $261 million. Hackers withdrew another $596 million thanks to various vulnerabilities, and organizers of exit scams received $137 million.

The total volume of losses in August was an order of magnitude lower than in July, when the volume of hacks and fraud amounted to $486 million. The hack of the Multichain project alone in July brought the attackers $231 million.

Earlier it was reported that, according to South Korean intelligence, North Korean hackers in 2023 managed to obtain assets worth $180 million.
