Of the $ 2.5 billion inherited by hackers, it was possible to return only a relatively small part of the stolen funds – $ 187 million. As a result, the adjusted total loss amounted to about $ 2.28 billion, representatives of Certik said.
The most dangerous type of attacks is the compromising of wallets: for 34 incidents, hackers were able to steal cryptocurrency worth more than $ 1.7 billion. Fishing took the second place in terms of the total volume of stolen assets: attackers stole more than $ 410 million for 132 incidents. Certik said that most often hackers attack the Ethrium -based services: in the first six months of the year, 175 cases of thefts with losses of $ 1.6 billion were recorded.
On average, each security incident brought losses of $ 7.1 million in US dollars, but the median loss for each case of the theft turned out to be much lower – about $ 89,026. Certik analysts calculated that in April – in the course of 144 incidents, cryptoactics were stolen for $ 801 million. This is 52.1% less than in the first quarter of the year. The number of cyber attacks was reduced by 59 cases.
The professor of computer sciences of Colombian University and co -founder Certik Jonhui Gu (Ronghui GU) said that it is enough for attackers to find only one vulnerability to cause a project of serious damage – while the developers of decentralized protocols need to protect millions of lines of code. While in the crypto project there is at least one weak link or vulnerability, sooner or later the attackers will find it, so that an endless war is being waged with hackers, GU said.
Certik co -founder believes that cyber protection products are being improved every day, but hacker attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated. According to the forecast, in 2026 the cost of digital assets stolen by hackers can reach a billion dollars. Recently, attackers began to use psychological tricks, attacking people working in teams of crypto projects or having closed keys. Using the methods of social engineering, hackers convince the victims to cross the fraudulent links or sign harmful transactions, and then empty the wallets, the co -founder of Certik complained.
Recently, Certik reported that the damage from attacks on the tokenization of the real world assets (RWA) over the past six months has exceeded $ 14 million. The largest hacking fell on the Zeth protocol, which lost $ 8.5 million in the spring.
