CFM says biologists “have no competence to perform medical act”
In the note released on Monday (12), the CFM states that biologists have no competence to perform medical act such as aesthetic procedures.
“The CFM vehemently repudiates this resolution, which puts the health of the population at risk by allowing non -doctors, without adequate formation, to perform invasive procedures in patients. The autarchy will take all appropriate measures to suspend the standard – as already occurred in 2023, with similar measure adopted by CFBio (Resolution No. 582/2020),” says José Hiran Gallo, president of the CFM, in the note.
In addition, the CFM states that the acts provided for in CFBio’s resolution “enter activities attributed as private doctors and do not fit the provision of the law that regulates the profession of biologist.” According to the note, the standard is “an invasion of private competence of doctors”, provided for in Law No. 12.842/2013, known as the Law of the Medical Act, which establishes the private acts of doctors.
