The Commissioner of the US Trading Commission (CFTS) Summer Mersinger (Summer Mersinger) will resign on May 30 to become the general director of the Blockchain Association human rights group, lobbying the interests of the crypto industry in Washington.

Blockchain Association announced that the Mersinger would take the post of general director on June 2. In 2022, Mercinger, belonging to the Republican Party of the United States, was appointed ex-president Joe Bayden as CFTC commissar. The official was among the applicants for the post of chairman of the commission, while President Donald Trump, who came to power, appointed Brian Quintenz to this position.

During her work in the department, Mercinger often spoke in support of cryptocurrencies. According to her, digital assets are no longer a newfangled phenomenon that arouses interest among traditional companies, but completely forming the industry. In 2023, Mercinger called on CFTC to cooperate with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over the creation of a regulatory framework for regulating digital assets.

“This is an important point for the crypto industry, and we are sure that Summer Mersinger is an ideal leader who will display Blockchain Association and the cryptocurrency sector to new heights,” said Blockchain Association, Marta Belcher.

Earlier, Mercinger said that it is CFTC that should be the main regulator of the cryptocurrency industry, since the department is ready to apply a flexible approach to supervision of the industry.
