Ch. Staikouras: The government pursues a responsible fiscal policy

The government seeks to give a new role to the insurance market through specific initiatives, stressed in an interview with Nextdeal.gr the Minister of Finance Mr. Christos Staikouras.

The Greek Ministry of Finance acknowledged that there has always been a deficit by the state in terms of political will with the aim of radical change.

However, he described the role of the private insurance market as much more important in the coming period due to the increase in natural disasters, and when asked about the possibility of tax incentives, he said that it is being evaluated by the political leadership and that it is in government targets from 2023. after.

In the economic field, Mr. Staikouras described the adjustments in the Stability Pact as a major issue, emphasizing that we are living in two crises at the same time, the health crisis and the energy crisis, which lasts longer and is sharper than the initial estimates.

He spoke of a responsible fiscal policy pursued by the government and clarified that as long as it continues there is no possibility of a new memorandum. “I rule out a new memorandum as long as the current government continues its prudent and responsible fiscal policy,” Christos Staikouras stressed in Nextdeal.

He announced the gradual recovery of the economy from 2023, with tax cuts and stressed the need to attract investment and strengthen the extroversion of the Greek economy, in order to create more and better jobs.

Regarding health, he assured that the Ministry of Finance will be next to the Ministry of Health in whatever is needed during the crisis.

He also made extensive reference to the support measures already implemented by the government and concerning the middle class and vulnerable social groups.
