According to the cybersecurity analyst Eric Jardine, the popularity of bitcoin among attackers has grown again against the backdrop of a decrease in the availability and liquidity of anonymous digital assets.
Previously, the darknet marketplaces actively used XMR as the main payment agent or in parallel with the first cryptocurrency. But after removing the asset from the crypto -streaks, transactional activity fell sharply.
Despite the return of bitcoin to darknet markets, illegal transactions with it so far remain a small part of all activity-only 0.14% of operations ($ 50 billion) are associated with violation of the law.
Jardin said that law enforcement agencies continue to pay increased attention of the darknet platforms, as they are involved in drug trafficking in many countries.
Earlier, an attacker under the pseudonym AKM69 put up for sale in a darknet with more than 100,000 records of personal data of Gemini and Binance cryptocurrency exchanges.
