New Democracy MP Theodoros Roussopoulos was elected Chairman of the Council of Europe’s Immigration Committee following a proposal by the European People’s Party to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council in Strasbourg. The Council of Europe has 324 Members from 47 countries, while the Immigration Committee, chaired by Mr. Roussopoulos, deals with a wide range of issues, including refugee flows, displaced persons, human trafficking and issues of international law. immigration.

“I thank my colleagues from all political groups who honored me with their vote and especially the head of the Greek delegation Dora Bakoyannis for her tireless efforts,” said Mr. Roussopoulos after his election and added: “Immigration concerns us all. “And our country, which lives it first hand, will insist on creating conditions of solidarity between the states of both the European Union and the Council of Europe.”

In addition, Mr. Roussopoulos was elected Vice President of the European People’s Party in the Council of Europe. Thus, our country, with the already elected vice-president Dora Bakoyannis, now holds two vice-presidential positions in the EPP political group in the Council of Europe.
