The Chamber of Deputies may vote this Monday (18) on a Provisional Measure (MP) that establishes a supplement to the value of Auxílio Brasil.
The MP that raised the value of the benefit from R$224 to R$400 – which was no longer called Bolsa Família – was edited by the federal government in December and, as it has the force of law, went into effect immediately. However, Congress still needs to pass the measure lest it expire.
The expectation, since this is an election year, is that the Legislature will approve this MP so that the benefit continues at R$ 400 this year. The central point of discussion, however, is what it looks like for 2023.
It is worth remembering that, last year, there was a long discussion about how to finance this extra amount, which went through the PEC of precatories as a way of opening space in the budget to be able to accommodate this greater aid. But that is not planned for next year.
If the MP is not approved, the benefit goes back to R$ 224. But the risk of this happening is low, according to analysts.
