Chamber Committee approves invitation to hear Guedes on IPI reduction

Parliamentarians from the Chamber’s Committee on Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Services approved the request for an invitation to the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes to provide information on the Incidence Table of the Taxes over industrialized products – TIPI, which was amended by presidential decrees.

Deputy José Ricardo (PT/AM), author of the request, justified the minister’s presence to clarify the 25% (twenty-five percent) reduction in the tax on industrialized products – IPI throughout Brazil. For him, there is a great impact on trade in the Free Zone of manaus .

“The Manaus Free Trade Zone – ZFM is a threat, as it imposes a loss of competitiveness, of comparative advantages in relation to industries installed in other states”, said the parliamentarian.

According to studies presented by the deputy, it was the industrial concentration in Manaus, with the offer of formal employment, whether in manufacturing or related services, which boosted the migratory movement from the interior to the capital.

This concentration, although unintentionally foreseen, “inhibited the pressure of predatory economic activities in the interior, such as extensive livestock, artisanal mining and the cutting of hardwoods for civil construction and production of inputs, among others, favoring a framework less deforestation and degradation.”

There was agreement on converting the call-to-invitation requirement, and the deputy leader of the government in Chamber deputy Evair de Melo (PP/ES), confirmed the presence of Paulo Guedes for June 1, at 9 am, due to his recovery from Covid-19 these last few weeks.

Opposition deputies stated that, if the minister does not appear on this date, they will request a summons, in which Paulo Guedes is obliged to appear at the risk of being framed in the crime of responsibility.
