On Wednesday (1), the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies approved the Bill (PL) that extends the exemption from the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) until 2026 in the purchase of new vehicles by taxi drivers and people with disabilities, in addition to expand the subsidy to the hearing and visually impaired. The matter returns to the Senate.
Authored by senator Mara Gabrilli (PSDB-SP), the Bill amends Law No. 8,989, of February 24, 1995, which provided for the right to exemption from the IPI for taxi drivers and people with disabilities who purchased a new car only until December 31 this year.
With the approval of the text, the maximum value for the purchase of a car with exemption from IPI was also updated, which goes from R$ 140 thousand to up to R$ 200 thousand. In the price, the applicable taxes must already be included, without exceeding the stipulated limit.
In addition, the opinion of the project’s rapporteur, Deputy Tiago Dimas (Solidarity-TO), included car accessories among the items that may be exempt from IPI on the purchase of vehicles for people with disabilities. “Accessories are essential for the mobility policy”, he explained.
The text also includes the end of the PIS/Pasep and Cofins exemption for the purchase and import of chemical and pharmaceutical products for hospitals and health campaigns carried out by the government.
