Chance of snow has passed and temperatures rise in the Southeast this week, says meteorologist

With a reduction in the intensity of the polar air mass that hit Brazil in the last week, the chance of snow in the South of the country has passed, and temperatures in Southeast should start to rise this week, according to Climatempo meteorologist Maria Clara Sassaki.

In an interview with CNN this Sunday (22), she stated that “the chance of snow is unfortunately gone, gone, now in the next few days we may have frost and icicle. Frost is the sudden freezing of air. In the icicle, the air passes from the gaseous state to the fog, and there the low temperature freezes the fog.”

“Unlike these two formations, which need more open weather, snow and freezing rain need heavy clouds. In the middle of the week we had a subtropical cycle on the coast of southern Brazil that left many rain clouds in the mountains, and behind it there was the polar air mass, and the combination favored the occurrence of snow”, he explains.

Now, the trend is for dry weather in the South and Southeast due to the end of the rains generated by the subtropical cyclone. Even the frosts should be restricted to the mountains of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, with moderate to strong intensity. There is a chance of frost in Serra da Mantiqueira, but with less intensity.

According to Sassaki, next week should be “typical of autumn” in the Southeast, due to the dry air. “If you go out early, take a coat because the temperature starts low, but not the extreme cold of last week. The mornings will still be very cold, with thermometers between 10ºC and 13ºC in the next few days. In the afternoon, the temperature rises due to the combination of sun and dry weather, then at night and at dawn it drops again”.

The forecast, he says, is that the temperature will rise gradually in the region throughout the week. She warns, however, that the relative humidity of the air will remain low, and may be below 30%, which makes it important to maintain good hydration throughout the day.

already in North East the expectation is that most of the region will have muggy weather, with lower temperatures in areas of Piauí and Bahia.

“We have a cold front in the ocean, linked to the subtropical cyclone, at the height of the Recôncavo Baiano, and it leaves a lot of cloudiness. It has a circulation of humid winds against the coast that keeps the clouds heavy throughout the week, so rain is forecast for the week,” he says.

Sassaki assesses that the rains may have moments of greater intensity, while temperatures should not exceed 29ºC, in the midst of a more closed weather.
