One of hip-hop's greatest love stories has come to an end. Chance the Rapper It is Kirsten Corley announced last Wednesday (03) that they are divorcing, according to a joint statement published on social media.
“After a period of separation, we both decided to go our separate ways,” they wrote in Instagram stories. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.”
“God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters that we will continue to raise together,” they continued. “We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this transition.”
The two, who married in 2019, are parents to Kensli, aged 7), and Marli, aged 4.
In March 2019, the rapper published on his profile on X, formerly Twitter, information about how they met in honor of their wedding day.
According to him, he was 9 years old in 2003 when he, his parents and brother went to a party at the company where his mother worked at the time. There were three girls – including his future wife – who performed a Destiny's Child cover.
The rapper then exchanged glances with the “most beautiful girl he had ever seen in his decade of life on Earth”.
And while his father encouraged him to showcase his talent, the future Grammy winner didn't want to share Kirsten's moment because he was shy at the time. Instead, he returned to the audience and never even told her his name.
“16 years later it’s happening. That [final de semana] This is the time and place for my wedding,” he wrote in 2019. “I will dance with my wife because that is my destiny.”
