The chancelers of Brazil and Paraguay talked on Monday (31) after the disclosure that the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) would have taken a hacker action against the neighboring country to obtain information about the Itaipu hydroelectric plant.
The information, revealed by the UOL portal and confirmed by the CNN, It points out that two agents from ABIN counted in testimony to the Federal Police (PF), in November 2024, about the case.
The hearings are part of the “parallel Abin” investigation, alleged illegal espionage scheme during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Brazilian Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, clarified the Paraguayan government that Brazil aborted the operation of Abin, authorized in June 2022, during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), as soon as the new management, still interim, learned of the case in 2023, the first year of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) mandate.
After the clarifications, Itamaraty issued a note denying the hacker attack.
Paraguayan Minister Rubén Ramírez Lescano said there is no evidence of the hacker attack, but the country will do investigations into the case.
