Change of guard in Charilaou Trikoupi: ‘We start work today’, said N. Androulakis

LAST UPDATE: 14.54

The new president of the Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, started his first day, after his victory yesterday, leaving a flower in memory of Fofi Gennimata, in the First Cemetery. Immediately afterwards he went to Charilaou Trikoupi where he was welcomed by the secretary of KINAL, Manolis Christodoulakis and the director of the party, Nikos Salagiannis.

As he entered, the newly elected president of the Movement for Change said: “Today is a great day for the party. We are moving forward vigorously to rebuild the Center-Left. The place needs a strong voice of progress, realism, a strong social democratic voice and my goal is Let PASOK and the Democratic Party offer this, because the place must also change page. “The place is ahead. So we have a lot of work ahead of us and we will start work today, so that we can answer all the issues correctly and with perspective.”

Speaking to reporters, the newly elected president of KINAL stressed that he did not expect this difference in the final result. “The elections are over. Let’s go united”, he noted and attributed the political event caused by the elections in KINAL to three factors. The fact that the pandemic did not allow important political events to take place and the KINAL electoral process gave the opportunity to express the basis of the faction, in the tragic death of Fofi Gennimata, as well as the fact that the field of action of Kentroaristera is large.

Afterwards, Mr. Androulakis had a meeting with his close associates and the party leadership. The KO will meet tomorrow at 16.00 to arrange its new structure.

According to information, Mr. Androulakis will not attend the meeting of the European Socialists in Brussels on Thursday, December 16.

The first moves

The first moves of the new leader include the appointment of the head of the parliamentary group, with most likely to gather either the evergreen Costas Skandalidis or -most likely- the youngest MP of Ilia, Michalis Katrinis. There will be changes in the secretary of the parliamentary group, as the replacement of -also Cretan- Vassilis Kegeroglou, who had supported G. Papandreou, is considered certain. Among other things, the name of the Drama MP, Haras Kefalidou, can be heard.

The position of the party’s spokesperson is pending, a position that remains essentially vacant after the resignation of Pavlos Christidis and for which, among others, the name of Panagiotis Vlachos is heard, until the former Communication Secretary of the party.

Changes in the secretary will follow, as the replacement of Manolis Christodoulakis is considered a given. Changes will be made to the heads of departments and the preparation for the conference will follow. His close associates, Andreas Spyropoulos and Stefanos Xekalakis, play key roles, possibly one as the director of his political bureau and the other as the party secretary.
