The new Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, took office last week and, in one of his first acts in office, formalized a request with the Ministry of Economy for the beginning of feasibility studies for the privatization of Petrobras. The measure had already been considered by President Jair Bolsonaro, but has only now been put into practice.
The decision to reactivate the company’s privatization plans comes about a month after the inauguration of the company’s new president and amid a series of criticisms by President Bolsonaro about Petrobras’ profits and successive fuel price adjustments.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an assessment of the reactions to the resumption of the discussion on possible privatization. To point out the economic and political aspects that influence the debate on a change in control of Petrobras, the economist Fernando Camargo, a partner at LCA Consultores, and the policy analyst at CNN Brazil Gustavo Uribe.
