“Change of Policy” and “Prosperity for All” promised Chancellor Mertz in his first Bundestag speech

“Change of Policy”, new priorities and renewal of the promise of “prosperity for all” in view of “great challenges”, was the central message of the first “Chancellor statement” to the Bundestag for Friedrich Mertz, a week after taking up his duties. Mr Mertz gave a special emphasis on the economy and foreign policy, promised a “noticeable improvement” for citizens in the summer, proclaimed his support for Ukraine and Israel, and also praised his predecessor, all of his predecessor. Referring to the ongoing recession of the German economy, the Chancellor has spoken of a “unprecedented financial crisis” in Germany, noting that “we have never experienced such a long period without economic growth”. They are at stake, even in jobs, even in key sectors, such as the automotive industry, the production of chemicals and large machines.
