Chaos at US airports: Cancellations and delays due to staff shortages

More and more Americans who head to airports to travel on the occasion of the 4th of July national holiday. The airlines of USA they have already canceled hundreds of flights today due to lack of staff.

By midday local time, nearly 600 had already been cancelled flightswhile more than 2,100 others were experiencing delays, according to the specialist website flightaware.com.

The situation was even worse the day before: on Friday, 3,060 flights were canceled and 8,000 delays were recorded.

Airlines in the US are currently employing 15% less staff compared to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic and are struggling to manage the mass return of passengers to their planes.

Companies in the industry, as the Athens News Agency points out, say they are working to solve the problem, intensifying recruitment campaigns for pilots and other categories of staff and reducing the number of seats available for passengers.

US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg reminded passengers via Twitter on Saturday that they are entitled to a refund if their flight is canceled.
