Chaos scenes unfolded today in Beirut, where protesters opened fire during the mobilization of the Shiite movements Hezbollah and Amal demanding the removal of Judge Tarek Bitar, its leader investigation into the 2020 Beirut eruption.
Two people were killed and seven were injured in Beirut, the army said in a statement.
Hezbollah and Amal call for calm
Shiite movements Hezbollah and Amal are urging their supporters to remain calm.
An announcement issued by them stated that their gathered supporters were shot dead by gunmen in the Tayunah area of Beirut which were placed on the roofs of buildings.
The gunmen targeted protesters in the head, according to the statement.
It is noted that the President of Lebanon Michel Aoun is in contact with the Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the Ministers of Interior and Defense to control the situation, as broadcast by international agencies and the Athens News Agency.
