The New Mexico State Attorney’s Office dropped the charges against him today Alec Baldwin for the shooting that killed filmmaker Halina Hutchins and injured filmmaker Joel Souza, in shooting the movie “Rust” in October 2021, as it became known from the lawyers of the famous actor.
At the expense of 65-year-old Baldwin had been prosecuted for manslaughter, as he was accused of showing “reckless” disregard for safety measures on set.
“We are satisfied with the decision to withdraw the prosecution against Alec Baldwin, encouraging the conduct of the required investigation into the events and circumstances leading up to this tragic accident,” said the actor’s lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro.
The police investigation focused mainly on how the actual bullets were found at the shooting, on a ranch in New Mexico, since such a thing is prohibited, precisely to avoid accidents. Officers concluded that gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed she was the one who put the bullet in the gun that Baldwin then used as relayed by the Athens News Agency.
Last month, assistant director Dave Hales was given a six-month suspended prison sentence in a plea deal with prosecutors. It was the first conviction in the case. Dave Hulse admitted he was “negligent” after failing to check the gun’s bullets to confirm they weren’t real and gave Baldwin the gun, assuring him it was “cold,” meaning “safe” in Hollywood slang.
