Charlène Wittstock is back in Monaco: the photos with the twins and Alberto

Charlène Wittstock has finally returned home. After months in South Africa, due to a health problem, Prince Albert’s wife returned to Monaco. The (good) news comes from the principality’s Instagram profile, through three family photos. Former South African swimmer hugs her husband and their twins Jacques and Gabriella, 6 years old – in the courtyard of Palazzo Grimaldi, in Monte Carlo.

“On Monday 8 November, Prince Albert, Princess Stephanie, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella welcomed Princess Charlène. An encounter full of joy and emotion “, reads as a caption to the images taken by the royal photographer Eric Mathon.

The former swimmer had been stranded in South Africa since last March. Having left for a series of commitments related to her humanitarian and animal welfare causes, she had been ill almost immediately, but the reasons for her absence from the Principality were only disclosed in July. At the beginning Palazzo Grimaldi had preferred not to provide details or explanations, but when the emptiness became more and more evident, the first official announcements arrived. In an interview with the South African magazine News24, last July, Charlène revealed that she was blocked in South Africa for health reasons. The princess explained that she had undergone an operation for the maxillary sinus lift, a bone graft that is carried out in order to make implants in the molar area. After the operation, an infection involving the ears ensued, hence the inability to move: his hearing system could not withstand pressure greater than 20,000 feet.

Then on August 13th came the news of a new operation: an operation under general anesthesia, which lasted four hours. “Prince Albert and their children, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella will be with her during her convalescence,” read the official profile. Not an easy time, made even more difficult by the increasingly heavy voices about an alleged crisis with her husband, precisely in the year of the tenth wedding anniversary, which the two spent far away, also thanks to the travel difficulties related to the Coronavirus epidemic. Paris Match in the middle of summer he even titled the cover: “L’affaire Charlène”, the title of the article, in which he told how the princess had taken refuge in a nature reserve three hundred kilometers from Durban. “He deals with rhinos, his new passion”, revealed the magazine, through the indiscretions of Stéphane Bern, royal editor who has always been close to the secrets of Monaco: “His gaze was already sad, now it seems lost”. To weigh more, understandably, the distance from the twin children, Jacques and Gabriella, born in 2014.

The couple thus tried to silence the gossip, also making public the travels of Alberto and the twins in Africa. “All this chatter hurts both me and my wife”, the prince had blurted out in September, exasperated by the media pressure. In between, in addition to some surgical interventions, also an emergency hospitalization due to a collapse. Then, the first good news: “He is much better, this last operation that involved the nasal septum went very well”, Alberto’s words a few weeks ago. “We will be able to evaluate his return very soon. AND I can say it will be in Munich before the National Day. It is not possible for me to give an exact date, but I promise you will know when the time comes. ‘

The Principality’s National Day is next November 19, and – as promised – Charlène is luckily home again. The worst seems to be over.
