Charles has the best training he could have to be king, says British consul

Although he assumed the throne immediately after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III will take months to be crowned. Until then, the monarch will undergo several official events, including traditional ceremonies involving royal mourning.

In an interview with CNN the consul general of the United Kingdom in Rio de Janeiro, Anjoum Noorani, optimistically assessed Charles’ transition from prince to king.

“He already has the best training he could have for this post, to understand what the differences are between prince and king: follow, look at his mother long enough, as he did with great honor. So I think he’s going to come in with all that knowledge, with that experience, that’s going to help him make that transition,” he said.

Regarding the reign of Elizabeth’s firstborn, the diplomat stated that it is not feasible to predict what his attitudes will be, but it is possible to analyze which are the most sensitive guidelines for the new king. The environmental issue, for example, is one of them.

“I remember when the now King Charles III arrived in Brazil in 2009. He arrived in Rio, then he went to Brasília and then to the Amazon region. And, for him, these themes of sustainability, the environment, climate change are very important themes”, said the consul.

Noorani also dealt with the interaction between the monarchy and the British population in this new era of royalty.

“In our long history, we have a lot of kings and queens. And the important thing for any of them is to maintain this connection with the population. It’s something that, for example, the queen has done quite well over time. But it is difficult, because times change, generations change,” she said.

Despite the difficulty, the consul believes that the fact that Charles is not unknown to the people can help him. “I think this theme of connecting with the audience is going to be even stronger in the future.”
