Charles Hoskinson: Etherem developers did not bribe the SEC

The founder of Cardano commented on rumors and suspicions against Ethereum developers – that they could bribe American officials for the sake of their immunity and the persecution of other crypto companies.

IOHK CEO Charles Hoskinson mentioned a high-profile speech by US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Director of Corporate Finance William Hinman during an Ask Me Anything session. In June 2018, the official said that ether is not a security, and now his statements are supported by Ripple, which seeks to refute the SEC’s statements that XRP is classified as a security.

In June, Ripple Labs published documents related to Hinman’s speech, according to which a week before his speech, the former SEC top manager met with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. This gave rise to suspicions that the Ethereum team could bribe an influential official.

However, Hoskinson, being the co-founder of Ethereum, said that the meeting with Buterin does not prove any corruption. Hoskinson said the crypto community is talking about two different things. Proponents of one theory claim that Ethereum’s founders used money and connections to convince SEC officials “not to put pressure on Ethereum.” Another theory, mainly XRP supporters, believes that the Ethereum team bribed several SEC officials to go after XRP and Ripple. Hoskinson noted that he left Ethereum four years before Hinman’s famous speech.

“These are very different things. It’s one thing to use relationships to protect your interests. It is another thing to organize a conspiracy to attack a competitor. You have yet to provide any evidence that there was even one meeting in which someone on the Ethereum team managed to bribe the SEC and convince it to go after XRP,” Hoskinson complained.

Recently, the founder of Cardano said that the American regulator would not attack the project, since, according to Hoskinson, the SEC’s tough actions against crypto companies are more of a political nature.
