Marcos Azambuja, former ambassador of Brazil to France and Argentina, said that King Charles III had the best preparation for a head of state in an interview with Rafael Colombo during the broadcast of the coronation on CNN this Saturday (6).
He highlighted that the monarch had 74 years to prepare for the post, had valuable teachings from his mother – Queen Elizabeth II – and arrives at the throne “fully prepared”.
“Of all the privileges that the role gave him, the greatest was time. He had time to mature, he had time to learn, he had time to polish the rough edges. He had the best preparation a head of state ever had. He was trained for this year after year, ”said the ambassador.
The advisor emeritus of the Brazilian Center for International Relations (Cebri) revealed that he was assigned to accompany the newly crowned king on an 11-day trip that covered several Brazilian states and stated that Charles III likes Brazil.
“I am watching this ceremony as a person who knows that he has the most affectionate disposition towards Brazil. He finds fun in us, he feels at ease among us, ”he declared.
Azambuja also said he felt sorry for the republican demonstrators who protested during the procession that preceded the coronation and defended the thesis that England has a vocation for monarchy.
“I feel sorry for these heroic republicans who are out there facing this hugely hostile crowd because the English identity is tied to the monarchy. I am not defending the monarchy, I am saying that there is such a deep connection between being English and getting the monarchy right that these efforts are always doomed to failure”.
The ambassador highlighted the religious character of the coronation ceremony and declared that the legitimacy of Charles III’s reign comes from divine will, as he also assumes the post of head of the Anglican Church.
“It is a ceremony that takes place in an abbey where legitimacy comes from the will of God. The King of England is made by the will of God, ”he said.
