Approaches the May 6thking’s coronation day Charles III, and while preparations are underway between London and Windsor for the long weekend of celebrations, details are also starting to leak that apparently may not seem very important but which are an integral part of the ceremony that will formalize the accession to the throne of the eldest son of Elizabeth II.
These include the official coronation logo, designed by Sir Jonathan Ive, former Apple designer. It was the king himself who wanted it; the two, moreover, already knew each other: in 2021 Ive created the logo of the Paper Earth Seal, attributed to organizations committed to safeguarding the planet, a theme dear to the sovereign.
Also this time the result does not disappoint and is full of important symbols, first of all for the country, but also for Charles III. “He was inspired by King Charles’ love for the planet, for nature and his deep concern for the natural world,” said Ive. “The logo speaks to the happy optimism of spring and celebrates the start of this new Carolina era for the UK.”
In the center of the logo, for which white and red have been used, the colors of the Union Jack, stands out a crown: it is the St. Edward’s Crown, with which Charles will be crowned. Outlining it, in a harmonious play of lines, are the stems of the four flowers that symbolize the United Kingdom: the thistleScottish emblem, the narcissus, representing Wales, the clover of Ireland and the Tudor rose of England. The official logo of the coronation will appear almost everywhere on the eve of and during the event, including the gadgets that the British, collectors and non-collectors, like so much.
The celebrations are very close now.
