The president of the USA appeared with a united front today, at their meeting at the White House Joe Biden and the leadership of the European Union, defending Israel’s right to self-defense while at the same time declaring that they will continue to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
This meeting coincided with the proliferation of crises around the world and the American president, President of the European Council Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen aimed to demonstrate the unbreakable US-EU ties.
In the laconic statements that Biden made to reporters, he welcomed the fact that Washington and Brussels jointly support “the courageous people of Ukraine” and “now they support Israel, after the terrible terrorist attack by Hamas».
Michel and von der Leyen arrived separately at the White House for this tripartite meeting with Biden. After the talks are completed, a joint communiqué will be issued, but no press conference is planned.
“Israel has a right to defend itself. This must be done with respect to international humanitarian lawMichel said, while von der Leyen thanked Biden for his visit to Israel on Wednesday. “These conflicts demonstrate the need to face them together“, he added, insisting that “events in the Middle East will not distract us from Ukraine.”
Europeans and Americans also seek to prevent the opening of a second front with the Lebanese Hezbollah and a possible regional escalation, with unforeseen consequences.
