“Thank you for your attitude towards UkraineVolodymyr Zelensky said speaking at the EP Plenary and cheered by MEPs who stood to applaud him for several minutes.
“In the European Parliament principles and courage have an absolute majority,” added Zelensky. “We have a common European history,” he said then, stressing that Russia is trying to wipe out the Ukrainian and European way of life with a total war. “We are defending ourselves against the most anti-European force in the modern world,” he said. “We defend ourselves, we defend you,” he added.
The President of the EP, Roberta Metzolahe characterized “historic” the visit of the Ukrainian president to the European Parliament and stressed that states should consider, quickly, as a next step, providing the military support that Ukraine is requesting.
Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech to the European Parliament ended with the anthem of Ukraine and the anthem of the EU.
It is the first time the president of Ukraine has visited Brussels, about a year after Russia’s war in Ukraine.
