During the first announcement of Need for Speed Unbound, when EA employees first showed screenshots of the new racing simulator, the project’s gameplay was shown only for a moment. Fortunately, yesterday, October 18, the developers from Criterion published a new trailer, the lion’s share of which is devoted specifically to the gameplay. It turned out that the race is very similar to Heat, only in darker colors, with an abundance of neon lights at night and, of course, various hand-drawn effects. For example, if a car flies off a ramp, then wings will appear in the air around the body of the car, which could be seen in the pages of comics.
And while this anime-inspired visual style may not appeal to all fans of the franchise, the developers decided to collect all the best mechanics from previous Need for Speed games in order to attract as many racing fans as possible. For example, along with traditional races, which will have a lot of formats in the game, the authors of the project have implemented the mechanics of chasing from cops. They will also appear during races, it will be possible to run away from the police and hide in various shelters, it will be possible to earn bonus money in this process and not only. As if the chases from Most Wanted were transferred to a new race – it looks exactly like that.
There will also be real-time events in the game – the trailer showed competitions that take place over four weeks, during which the gamer can increase his stock of money to further improve the car, tuning and stuff like that. There was even a weekly Saturday tournament, for winning which they give special prizes – similar mechanics for tying a player to constant gameplay already exist in FIFA, for example. This means that the gamer will have to compete constantly if he does not want to fall behind the closest competitors.
And, of course, a rather strange betting mechanic appeared. The menu will include a list of riders, indicating the power of their vehicle, with whom you can compete during tournaments. The player can challenge competitors by using money from his budget as a bet in order to increase the bank in a week if he wins. Probably, if the gamer fails to win and collect the required amount of money to upgrade the car, then the game will kindly provide him with the opportunity to get virtual dollars for real money. This is another sign that the upcoming game will be a real money-pumping combine.
