ChatGPT: what does and how to use the artificial intelligence application that everyone is talking about

We have to admit it, among the categories that could most fear the spread of Chat GPT and other forms of artificial intelligence, it’s just us journalists. This application, in fact, has already reached an astonishing level of knowledge so as to explain in a clear and convincing way different concepts.

A test? We asked AI what it does, here’s what it answered. «I am a language model called ChatGPT, created by OpenAI. My aim is to generate text autonomously, answering the questions that I am asked or creating original text on a given topic. I’m trained on a lot of text data. However, my intelligence is limited to the scope of text and the information I have access to during training. I have no awareness or emotions like a human, but I can provide accurate information and generate plausible text.”

In short, a rather valid and exhaustive answer. This test tells us that ChatGPT seems to be an already quite advanced resource, especially for content creation the use of which could end up anywhere and it would be difficult to notice the difference compared to a text written by a person in the flesh. It is no coincidence that some universities in the world have already banned this tool to prevent students from using it for their term papers.

What is ChatGPT

Something just told us artificial intelligence, in fact it is a chatbotsa kind of robot with which we interact through written textdeveloped by OpenAI, an American non-profit research company that promotes this innovation.

It is an artificial intelligence «friendly», therefore specially developed not only to be familiar and helpful to us, but also with the aim of contributing to the good of humanity. This means that the developers control the code, functions and developments, supervising the possibility of illegal and fraudulent use.

How does it work

We have already said that we are talking about a chatbotssomething that surely is familiar to millions of people since similar systems have long been used by companies such as telephone operators or banks when turning to online customer assistance we are faced with an automatic answering system.

ChatGPT can be reached at chat.openai.com and to use it you need a registration. The site is currently free (the application is still in the testing phase) and can be accessed by anyone who wants it, however it is in English but questions can be asked in many languages, including Italian.

By inserting the request in the space provided, just press enter to receive an answer practically in real time.

What is it for

At this stage ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is little more than a tool for generating texts, some are using it as an aid in writing research, theses and documents. It is certainly generating a lot of curiosity and in a short time since its launch, which took place only last November 30, over 1 million people he is using it.

The potentials are in fact different. For example, we can ask very precise questions and get relevant answers without having to struggle to find the answers online, perhaps by reading several articles, as we do today with Google.

However, the most interesting areas seem to be those related to professional activities, for example using ChatGPT just like a virtual assistant in customer service contexts, but also for the automatic generation of documents and reports. Some think it could even be used as a digital teacher for online training. It sure is already a valid copywriter and a decent journalist, so future uses in social media and news production can be hypothesized.

Considering that we are still in a rather primordial season of artificial intelligence ChatGPT clearly demonstrates that in the near future we will interact easily and naturally with many applications of this kind, an increasingly hybrid life between real and virtual which some call the metaverse.
