Mobile and prepaid telephony is cheaper for all citizens from January 1, as the new, uniform and fixed mobile and prepaid telephony fee of 10% came into force. This is the implementation, by the Ministries of Digital Government and Finance, of the measure announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair in September 2021.
According to the joint announcement of the ministries, the new mobile and prepaid telephony charges apply automatically, for every mobile connection belonging to a natural person, without requiring any action on the part of the citizen. It concerns all connections, whether, that is, they are contracts or prepaid.
It is recalled that, according to the previous regime, mobile telephony charges ranged from 12% to 20%, depending on the amount of the monthly bill. Thus, the benefit of the measure ranges between 2% and 10% for the total of each monthly bill and for all consumers.
Especially for young people aged 15-29, the complete abolition of mobile and prepaid telephony charges applies. In fact, from January 10, the platform on which young people of the above age group will be able to declare their mobile number and be completely exempt from mobile and prepaid telephony charges will be available through gov.gr. The platform is implemented by the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Public Administration and the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post.
The Government, remaining faithful to its commitments – despite the multiple, external crises that our country still faces – implements for the third consecutive year policies to alleviate households and businesses from the tax burden, with the aim of boosting disposable income and improving of all citizens.
