“Time” magazine published a list of the best films of 2023 last Friday (1), produced by film critic Stephanie Zachareck, who signed the text.
The author highlighted that no cinematic experience can be reduced to markers, nor should it be.
“Especially now, when we can watch so many new films without leaving home, the viewing experience has changed drastically and in ways we may never fully consider,” he wrote.

10th – Passages
Directed by Ira Sachs, the film tells the story of Tomas, a film director who, on the last day of filming in Paris, sleeps with a woman and proudly tells her husband about it. From this, a passionate, jealous and narcissistic relationship unfolds between Tomas, Agathe and Martin. The film is available on Amazon Prime Video.
9th – Dreamin’ Wild
The film tells the story of singer-songwriter Donnie Emerson and his family when the album he and his brother recorded when they were teenagers is rediscovered after thirty years and is hailed by music critics as a lost masterpiece.
8th – Growing up together (in English “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”)
Longa tells the story of Margaret, an 11-year-old girl who contemplates life and adolescence with the help of her mother and grandmother. The film is available on HBO Max.
7th – Flower Moon Assassin
Directed by Martin Scorcese, it tells a story that takes place in 1920, in the United States. Members of the Osage tribe died mysteriously after the discovery of oil on their land. William (Robert De Niro) believed that white people should dominate the territory to exploit riches. He and his nephew Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio), married to an indigenous woman (Lily Gladstone), became the target of FBI investigations, led by officer Tom (Jesse Plemons).
6th – Past lives
Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are separated after Nora’s family decides to leave South Korea. Twenty years later, they reunite in New York for one fateful week as they confront notions of destiny, love and the choices that make a life.
5th – Memories of Paris
Three months after surviving a terrorist attack in a Parisian bistro, Mia is still traumatized and unable to remember the events of that night. In an effort to finally move on, she delves into her memories and retraces her steps.
4th – Priscilla
Sofia Coppola’s new film is based on Priscilla Presley’s autobiography “Elvis and Me”, written in 1985, and tells the story of how Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) met Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi), who was already a star at the time.
3rd – Zone of Interest
During World War II, the film follows the commander-in-chief of Auschwitz and his wife as the couple tries to build a life on the sidelines of a concentration camp. The film is produced by A24 and directed by Jonathan Glazer.
2nd – Conductor
The film tells the story of Leonard Bernstein and his relationship with his wife Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, is directed by and stars Bradley Cooper and has Carey Mulligan in the cast. It premieres on December 20th on Netflix.
1st – Autumn leaves
The Finnish comedy-drama film follows the story of Ansa, a supermarket stocker, and Holappa, a former alcoholic. Their paths cross and they are automatically attracted to each other, they decide to go out on a date and start an unlikely relationship that could be the solution to ward off their existential loneliness. The film is available in cinemas.
