Check the schedule for the Bicentennial of Independence in Rio de Janeiro

The celebrations of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil begin this Tuesday (6), the eve of the independence holiday. According to the activities disclosed by the Eastern Military Command (CML), in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the festivities are expected to begin with a civic-military parade on Avenida Duque de Caxias, in Vila Militar, where the public will be able to watch demonstrations of martiality and operationality of the troop.

On Wednesday (7), starting at 8 am, as planned by the CML, the 31st Field Artillery Group conducts an hourly artillery fire salute at Fort Copacabana.

Throughout the morning of Fatherland Day, there should be performances by Army bands in the neighborhoods of Flamengo, Lagoa, Madureira, Méier, São Cristóvão, Sulacap and Urca.

From 9 am, there is a forecast of a Naval Parade with the participation of ships from the Brazilian Navy and from friendly countries, departing Recreio dos Bandeirantes, towards the Guanabara Bay.

In the afternoon, starting at 1 pm, the CML is planning a commemorative ceremony to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil on Avenida Atlântica, at the height of Avenida Rainha Elizabeth, in Copacabana.

The ceremony is expected to include an air show by the CEU Squadron and the presentation of music bands from the Marines, the 1st Guards Battalion, the Brazilian Air Force and the Military Police of Rio.

Next, it is the turn of the free jump team of the Parachute Infantry Brigade, “os Cometas” – reinforced by members of the “Equipe Falcão”, from the Brazilian Air Force -, to perform a jumping demonstration with landing on Copacabana beach. . Then the Smoke Squadron performs acrobatics across the Copacabana sky.

At 4:00 pm, approximately the time of the Proclamation of Independence, the Brazilian Fleet and Artillery stationed at Fort Copacabana must execute 21-gun salutes in honor of Brazil’s Bicentennial of Independence.

Also on September 7, within the scope of the CML, civic-military parades are planned in the cities where the barracks will be located in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. In Niterói, the civic-military parade is scheduled for 9 am, on Avenida Amaral Peixoto.

On the next Thursday (8th) and Friday (9th), the Copacabana Fort remains open to free visitation of its centenary walls, as well as the historical museum they house.
