Known primarily for his work on the franchise “Iron Man” from Marvel, Jon Favreau launched “Chef” in 2014, a film in which he stars and directs. The title will be shown in the Afternoon Session this Monday (9).
In the plot, a renowned chef from Los Angeles receives a negative review from a specialist critic, which makes him reflect on his work and realizes that he does not have the freedom he would like in the kitchen. With the help of his family and friends, he opens a food truck serving homemade food in the city where he began his career: Miami.
Besides Favreau, names like Robert Downey Jr. (“Iron Man” and “Oppenheimer”), Scarlett Johansson (“Lost in Translation” and “Lucy”), Dustin Hoffman (“Rain Man” and “The Graduate”) and Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family” and “Griselda“) make up the cast.
The film was well received by critics and audiences, with an approval rating of over 85%, but was also praised by the two-time Michelin-starred chef Paul Liebrandt one of the owners of the Corton restaurant in New York.
In an interview with Insider this year, a decade after its release, the British chef said the series is a realistic portrayal of late-night cooking and the stress of dealing with food critics.
“You’re making lunch and dinner during the day, your kitchen is full of people. You don’t have time to be creative, so you have one evening where at least you can have some peace and quiet. And you can focus on ideas, so actually, yes, I’ve done that more than once,” he said.
“Yelling at the critic, I respect that. I’ve had my run-ins with critics. I’ve thrown critics out of restaurants years ago. It’s subjective, it doesn’t mean it’s bad. But, um, you know, the critic thing can be a double-edged sword, is what I would say. I would rate that scene a solid 8 out of 10. I think it’s pretty realistic, yeah,” he said.
