Today, February 7, journalists from the TASS news outlet, citing their sources, reported that the Russian automobile manufacturer Sollers Auto, owned by Vadim Shvetsov, is negotiating with the well-known Chinese car manufacturer Chery on the joint production of vehicles in Russia, as well as on the development of the latest technologies in the field of transport on electric power plants. So far, no documents have been signed yet, but they plan to announce the final parameters of the partnership project before the middle of this year.
“Sollers and Chery are negotiating a large-scale partnership in Russia, which includes not only the production of cars, but also the development of new technologies in the field of electric transport, promising modules and materials for the automotive industry,” the official commentary of the press service of the Russian company.
It is worth recalling that back in the middle of last year, information appeared that Chery wanted to launch localized production of its cars in Russia, and was also negotiating with production sites on this topic. Moreover, some time ago, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that during the talks between Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the topic of joint production of Chery cars based on the facilities of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant was also discussed. Accordingly, if the issue was discussed at such a high level, then the signing of all the papers is only a matter of time.
However, it is still difficult to predict which models will be produced in Russia – Chery is quite richly represented in the Russian market, plus in the foreseeable future, the Chinese giant will bring to the country a compact premium crossover Exeed LX, as well as Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and Omoda 5.
