Insiders were right – the American corporation General Motors presented at CES 2022 its latest electric pickup, the Chevrolet Silverado EV, which was created on its own modular Ultium platform. It is worth recalling that an electric SUV and a Hummer EV pickup are assembled on it, so the new car with the Hummer has a lot in common. But the main advantage of the new pickup is not so much in its technical equipment, but in the release date and cost – the company said that the electric car will go on sale in the fall of this year at a cost of only 39 thousand dollars for the basic version.
However, in addition to the price of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, there is also something to brag about. For example, the car is based on the Ultifi software platform, which is built on the basis of Linux – it can receive firmware updates over the air, so that vehicle developers can, if desired, improve their electric car without having to drive it into service. Moreover, smart driving is also implemented here – even the basic version of the pickup is equipped with many driver assistance systems. Speech about keeping in the lane, changing lanes on the track and even automatic piloting outside the city – the full list of technologies should be presented closer to the release.

In addition, the Silverado EV has an impressive bonus over the competition – the manufacturer said the pickup has a range of 640 kilometers. For example, a potential competitor in the face of the Ford F-150 Lightning boasts a mere 370 kilometers on a single battery charge. Of course, these are only statements at the presentation, while in fact the power reserve could be much lower, but at the moment it is a real record holder. And the top-end configuration of the Silverado EV RST First Edition will receive rear wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, four-wheel drive and a total power of 510 horsepower electric power plants.

It is also worth noting that pick-up trucks are quite often used as a commercial vehicle for cargo transportation – for this reason, at the presentation, GM employees focused on the maximum weight of cargo that can be towed by a new electric car. In the basic version, the pikes can tow 3630 kilograms, but in the top version, the vehicle can pull more than 9 tons of weight. Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not specify how towing affects the travel range on a single charge.
