Militiaman Rui Paulo Estevão, known as Pipito, appointed head of the largest militia in Rio de Janeiro, was killed this Friday afternoon (7), after a confrontation with Rio de Janeiro civil police officers. Pipito was considered militiaman Zinho’s right-hand man in the criminal hierarchy and, currently, the most wanted in the state.
Pipito’s death occurred in the West Zone of the city, during an action by agents from the Police Station for the Repression of Organized Criminal Actions (DRACO) and the Undersecretary of Intelligence of the Civil Police, who went to the Rodo favela, in the Santa Cruz neighborhood.
According to the police, the militia member named Rui Paulo Gonçalves Estevão, named Rui Paulo Gonçalves Estevão, was shot during the action and taken to a hospital in the region. He did not survive his injuries.
The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, highlighted the police action on social media: “At the time of arrest, the criminal attacked the agents. There was a confrontation and he was shot. The message is given: we will continue to fight crime relentlessly, be it militia, drug trafficking or any mafia group.”

Civil police officers from the Police Station for the Repression of Organized Criminal Actions and Special Inquiries (Draco), with the support of the Undersecretary of Intelligence (Ssinte), arrested, this Friday (06/07), the militiaman known as “Pipito”, appointed as his successor by Luiz Antônio da Silva Braga, known as Zinho. He was found in Favela do Rodo, in Santa Cruz, West Zone of Rio.
“Our Civil Police dealt another serious blow against criminals who threaten the peace of the population. The message is given: we will continue to fight crime relentlessly, be it militia, drug trafficking or any mafia group”, highlighted Governor Cláudio Castro.
According to the Secretary of State for Civil Police, delegate Marcus Amim, this Friday’s action is yet another demonstration that the State is in charge of Rio de Janeiro.
“Any criminal who tries to dominate territories and subjugate the population will be a target of the Civil Police”, reinforced Amim.
When approached, he attacked the agents and a confrontation ensued. The criminal was hit and was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive.
In addition to him, two other militiamen were injured and needed to be rescued. They were supposed to be “Pipito’s” security guards, were heavily armed and participated in the confrontation. Both were detained, and one of them had an outstanding arrest warrant.
