Child dies after being forgotten inside car in SC; police investigate

The Civil Police of Santa Catarina is investigating the case of a 4-year-old child who was found inside a car on Wednesday afternoon (25), in Joinville (SC).

According to the Civil Police, the child was under the care of her mother and was found in the car by a civil firefighter. She was taken to the Hans Dieter Schmidt Regional Hospital, but did not survive.

In a statement, the PM states that the agents spoke to the unit’s social worker, who reported that the child was taken to the hospital by a firefighter from a private company.

The social worker also allegedly claimed that, upon realizing the situation, the firefighter had to break the window of the vehicle, which possibly belonged to the child’s mother – who had gone to work and forgotten the victim inside the car.

In a statement, the police said that the case is being investigated by the Child, Adolescent, Women and Elderly Protection Department in Joinville. An expert on the scene was requested and the Scientific Police were called to collect the child’s body from the hospital.
