More than 700 representatives of governments, social organizations and technology companies – an international “alliance” of 60 countries – met in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday for a World Summit on Combating Cyberbullying.
Eighty-five million images of child pornography circulated on the Internet last year. Studies show that since 2010 there has been an increase of 6,000% in these data.
«Like many survivors, I lived in fear and silence for a long time. But I’m also one of the lucky few, because I finally had access to reimgs, help and support “They allowed me to become who I am today and to do that purpose, so that no child has to go through what I went through,” said Daniela Lizziero, founder of the Brave Movement.
Daniela, now 47, is a former member of the Obama administration abused from the age of 6 by a close relative, a neighbor of her family. She found the courage to confess it to her parents when she was a teenager.
“I think there is still a lot of stigma and shame. And there is this feeling that this is something that is happening somewhere else, not in our families, not in our communities, and that it is small. But the reality is huge. We know from data that about one in four girls and one in eight boys worldwide will experience some form of sexual violence as children. “And so we are many, but most of us are hidden,” he added.
The consequences are lifelong
“We are talking about millions of images of children still circulating. And when this image is re-released, it hurts the child again. The child can never get rid of these images. Imagine being abused as a child. And as you grow older, this image is still out there for you forever. It is endless. She is immortal. “He never leaves,” said Cornelius Williams, UNICEF chief of staff.
So cyberbullying can be a phenomenon of just a decade, but the consequences are lifelong.
