Child's body found after landslide in Rio de Janeiro

The Rio de Janeiro Fire Department found this Friday (23) the body of a 6-year-old child who was missing due to the rains in the city of Mendes, in the south of the state, after a landslide on Wednesday. (21).

Around 70 soldiers from the corporation were involved in searching for the child. The operation also included specialists in rescues, collapses and burial, in addition to the support of sniffer dogs from the Fire Department's kennel. Students from the Disaster Rescue Operations Course (COSD) also reinforced the work.

According to firefighters, 130 incidents related to rain were recorded in the state between Wednesday (21) and Thursday (22). Nine deaths were confirmed due to the rains.

In addition to the death in Mendes, in Japeri, in Baixada Fluminense, a child died after a house collapsed. The property was hit by a landslide and was destroyed. Japeri city hall reported another death due to the rains. In Barra do Piraí, in the south of the state, four people died after a slope gave way and hit a three-story house.

Still in the Baixada region, in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, two men died as a result of the storms.
