Leftist Gabriel Boric, 36, has been sworn in as its new president Chile for the four years 2022-2026. He is the youngest president in the history of the country.
A former student leader and law and social science graduate from the University of Chile, Boric was sworn in with his cabinet at a ceremony held at the National Congress in Valparaiso, about 100 miles (100 kilometers) from the capital, Santiago.
“I am very proud of this cabinet! I am very proud that women are more than men, thanks to the feminist movement. “Let us never forget that we owe it to the people of Chile,” he told members of the cabinet.
Having won the most votes in Chilean history in the history of Chile, Boric also made history by electing an unprecedented cabinet full of young people, feminists and environmentalists.
He took office amid the economic and health crisis triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the historic process in the South American country to change the Constitution dating back to the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
