Chilean population rejects new Constitution proposal; President says “democracy comes out more robust”

The Chilean population rejected the proposal for a new Constitution, in a plebiscite this Sunday (4). The “reject” option prevailed over the approval of the submitted text.

With 99.99% of polling stations counted, 61.86% of voters were against the text presented by the Chilean Constitutional Convention. The favorable ones were 38.14%.

Voting, which was mandatory, took place between 8 am and 6 pm (local time). According to an estimate by the Chilean authorities, around 15 million people were eligible to vote.

After confirming that the population of Chile decided to reject the new constitution for the country, President Gabriel Boric made a statement in which he stated that, regardless of the outcome of the polls, Chilean democracy came out “more robust” this Sunday (4).

“Today, the people of Chile spoke loud and clear, giving us two messages: the first is that they love and value their democracy and trust it to overcome differences and move forward,” the president began.

Cristina Kirchner will file a complaint for the attack she suffered, says lawyer

Argentina’s vice president, Cristina Kirchner, will file a complaint this Monday (5th) in the case that investigates the attack she suffered last Thursday (2nd), according to confirmation by Gregorio Dalbón, a of your lawyers.
