Security camera captured the chilling moments a homeowner in the Ohio of the US shoots and kills his daughter’s ex when the young man tries to break into the family’s residence. The tragic incident occurred on July 31 and resulted in the death of 22-year-old James Rayl.
In the video recently released by local station WHIO-TV 7, the 22-year-old is seen trying to open the door after being told by family inside the home to leave.
Ignoring the pleas, he starts banging his shoulder against the wooden door, trying to break it down.
At one point, the voice of his ex-partner’s father, Mitch Duckro, is heard warning him that he is armed.
Finally, the door is hacked open and three follow shootingsinjuring the 22-year-old, who descends the yard steps and manages to walk a few meters before finally collapsing in the hallway in front of the house.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old had received two bullets in the shoulders and one in the back.
In a previous call to police, a woman who describes the intruder as her ex-boyfriend is heard telling her father that Ryle is trying to break down the door.
“Dad, is he trying to kill me?” she is heard asking anxiously. After Duckro shoots Rayl, his daughter is heard telling him that “it was all he could do” and that he saved her life.
Earlier this month, a Shelby County jury acquitted the father of charges in the 22-year-old’s death, citing a state law that says a homeowner has no legal obligation to try to leave before opening fire.
