China: 25-year-old arrested as suspect in knife attack

Police arrested a suspect for her knife attack that killed six people yesterday and injured 14 in the city of Anqing in the east Of China, announced today the local authorities.

The suspect in the attack, which took place on a commercial sidewalk, is an unemployed 25-year-old who “thus vented his anger over some of his family problems and expressed his pessimism”The Communist Party in Anqing said in a statement on social media Weibo.

One of the 14 injured is being treated in serious condition, while the state of health of the rest is stable, as added in the announcement.

Knife attacks are not uncommon in China, where gunfire is not allowed for ordinary citizens.

In April, a man stabbed two children to death and injured 16 others at a kindergarten in southern China.

In 2018, a man who stabbed to death nine children in northern China was sentenced to death.
