It’s going up day by day the death toll from the 6.6 magnitude earthquake which took place in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. The dead have reached 74, the injured 259 and the missing, until last night (6/9), 26.
THE earthquake it was the strongest since 2017 in Sichuan and destroyed dozens of buildings and infrastructure of electricity, water and telecommunication networks. Crews reopened roads that had been closed and 11,000 residents were evacuated from their homes in Luding canton, the epicenter of the quake.
Meanwhile the aftershocks continue, with the last one early in the morning estimated at 3 Richter and a focal depth of 12 km. Forecasters are predicting heavy rains from today until the day after tomorrow Friday, which will make search and rescue operations more difficult.
